Pattern Mania!
Over the last few days I have been sorting through my files and creating patterns... here are a few. I've had fun imagining them on various products. They are available to license so please do get in touch if you're interested in purchasing them for use on your products. lucinda@lucinda-kidney.com The strawberry pattern started life as a simple watercolour which I vectorised in Adobe Illustrator. The Harlequin pattern also started life as a watercolour although I experimented

It's been a while
Oh my gosh! It's been a while since I last added a post. The end of my boys' school summer term is always filled with functions and I've been juggling like crazy to fit work into that schedule too. The summer holidays have been quite full on too trying to juggle work and making sure the boys are happily entertained! Today I managed to steal some time to add a new design to my RedBubble shop. I had fun with the idea of a 'cat tooth' pattern... my twist on the traditional hound

Here Comes the Sun
I have recently completed a pattern collection for the Patternmash East meets West SS17 collection. Thank you Hannah for featuring one of my patterns on your slider :D You can see my full collection here My designs have been inspired by vintage Japanese kimonos & matchbooks; and 1980’s graphic shapes, Letraset half tones, Ben Day dots and urban high rise architecture. To achieve the gritty texture of big cities such as Tokyo and London I have used a sugar lift etching. I coll

All Good Things Come To An End
Last week was the fifth and final week of the MATS Home Decor e-course with Lilla Rogers and Margo Tantau. It was an intense yet highly satisfying five weeks. I learned a ton and can't wait to put my refined skills into practice after the summer holidays. The final week's substrate was wood. I felt in my element creating two wall art collages on birch ply supports, decorated and decopaged wood butterfly blanks and a wooden cutlery set. Here is a collection of a product from e

My collection is taking shape
The last couple of weeks have been really busy with summer school holidays and the majority of my time being spent (whilst the boys were at cricket camp) on the third and fourth weeks of the home decor e-course I'm currently doing. I have compiled weeks 1 - 4 into one image (above) and it's amazing to see the cohesiveness. In the fourth week we tackled hand lettering which I really enjoyed so I'd like to pursue more of that once the course is over... one week left to go! The

An Emerging Home Decor Collection
Over the last two weeks I have been really busy with a new online e-course run by Lilla Rogers and Margo Tantau on how to create a Home Decor Collection. It is a long held dream of mine to see my designs on products in the stores and taking this course is just one tiny step in that direction. The course is intensive but so much fun and I feel a huge sense of pride at my achievements thus far. We were given a choice of three mood boards to choose from, all of which are gorgeou

Sonia Delaunay and Agnes Martin
A few days ago I went to the TATE Modern to see the Sonia Delaunay and Agnes Martin exhibitions. They are both artists I have never heard of before although my textile design friends knew about them. I'm not sure why they weren't brought to my attention when I studied Graphic Design although I wish I had been made aware of them... I've been missing out all these years! I won't go into detail on their lives but I will share my thoughts from my visit. Delaunay's work is very co

Floral Patterns
I recently completed Jessica Swift's Pattern Camp (http://www.jessicaswift.com/pattern-camp) where I learnt how to create a pattern repeat using Adbobe Illustrator. I am so pleased and excited to share with you two patterns I created today... I've entered them in this month's Tigerprint competition (http://designcompetition.tigerprint.uk.com) so fingers crossed! #pattern #camp #jessica #swift #tigerprint #floral #flowers

Look and you will see
Initially I felt that the 'beverages' topic was quite restricting, especially as we aren't 'allowed' to share our work in progress with each other. As previously mentioned we are encouraged to share photos of what we're drinking and associated meals. This has opened up the field considerably! There's a plethora of interesting mugs, cups and other drinking vessels on the photo feed... not to mention beautiful tableware full of colour and pattern. I'm finally starting to feel e

Digital Assemblage
Whilst painting strawberries I decided that instead of painting and combining all the elements of the fruit in one image I'd break the elements down into seperate parts which I'll later scan in to the computer and assemble the whole digitally. During this process it quickly became apparent that the individual components have their own identities and, on their own, resemble a pattern. This discovery has been a revelation for me because I can now see how easy it is to create in
