Meet the Makers
The definition of Craft is something made by hand using traditional skills.
About five years ago I quietly predicted that Craft would enjoy a revival. It's time seems to have finally come as the pendulum is swinging away from mass production and its cookie cutter products.
An article in this week's Sunday Times Home supplement entitled "This time it's personal" by Katrina Burroughs and Cally Law states "The best designer-makers are creating beautifully finished furniture and elegant accessories, ideal for the contemporary interior."
e-commerce webistes such as 'etsy.com', 'printsy.com', 'notonthehighstreet.com' all promote designer-makers selling a huge range of beautifully crafted, unique, authentic and affordable wares covering a wide range including original art, original hand-pulled prints, photography, jewellery, ceramics and much more.
I'm hoping to be able to meet the makers at one or more of the following events:
Discover: The Heal's Modern Craft Market, Tottenham Court Road, London W1
Crafted: Makers of the Exceptional, Royal Academy of Arts, London W1
Ceramic Art London, Royal College of Art, London SW7
Collect, Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York's HQ, London SW3
June and December
Open Studios, Cockpit Arts, Cockpit Yard, London WC1 and 18-22 Creekside, London SE8
